WALLY AKACHA – Founder
After graduating from the University of Technology, Sydney with a degree in Civil and Structural Engineering, Wally has worked for over 20 years in the construction industry.
His career commenced with working for Leighton Contractors on high profile projects including the reconstruction of St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney. Across this period he worked for large publicly listed Tier 1 construction companies like Leighton Contractors and Downer EDI as well as smaller privately held businesses, Mainland Civil and BMD Constructions.
His career highlight to date was kicking off a start-up civil engineering business with a colleague and rapidly growing it from over a 12-year period. Throughout this period with ITS Pipetech he successfully managed a 25% year on year average business growth rate whilst achieving profitability, maintaining compliance with health and safety standards, managing a robust and engaged workforce and focusing on client relationships. After completing 4 successful years as General Manager, he was promoted to Managing Director where, after 2 years in the role he led the business through a full sale to a large multinational company.
Wally was a member of a CEO peer advisory group for 8 years, and thoroughly understand the challenges that CEOs, Managing Directors and General Managers face in their personal and professional development. The next chapter of his career will focus on the establishment of Real Business Matters, a business he has co-founded to provide support to business leaders. Through regular mentoring and coaching sessions with up-and-coming leaders, Wally will be looking to pass on the lessons he’s learnt to assist in their further career development and achievement of their personal and business goals.
